Welcome to the first newsletter under our new name Hosted Accommodation Australia. There was concern in some quarters with the change, but overall it has been very well received by members and most definitely by our colleagues in the wider tourism industry. I'm sure that the advent of two new websites and the appeal of our organisation to many new members will prove that the move was beneficial.
This edition of Pillow Talk demonstrates the wide range of activities currently underway within the organisation. Advocacy is top of mind, particularly with Building Code issues. We continue to experience disparity in the application of laws within the States. An example of this is that the new WA Building Commission are mandating that from 1 October hard-wired smoke alarms are to be installed in all bedrooms. The Victorian Building Commission advises against this on the basis that smoke should be detected outside bedrooms. On 25 October, we have organised a forum with the Victorian Building Commission and other key organisations for examining the effect of the new disabled access laws on our industry.
Marketing activities are centred on our new Marketing Website, the opportunity for distributing Press Releases to 900 Australian travel writers and a repeat of our promotion in the AFTA Travel Pages which are used by Travel Agents throughout the country.
Finally, Daylight Saving commences this weekend in those participating States and the A.C.T.
